Our Mission
Our mission is to advance, advocate, support, promote and protect the St Johns River-to-Sea Loop (SJR2C) multiuse Florida SUNTrail and connected trails, and to increase equitable active transportation and recreation in our region by making the area safer and more attractive for cycling and walking and working for safe connections to trails and other major destinations . We encourage people of all ages and abilities to engage in active transportation for their own health and the health of their communities and the planet.
The Alliance is headquartered in Deland, Fl. We assist area governmental units in development, planning and prioritization; promote environmental, cultural and historical awareness of trails and nearby communities; and work to advance a network of connecting trails and bikable/walkable public places. We coordinate with governmental agencies that build the Loop and those at the county and municipal level responsible for integrating the trail into how we live and travel, emphasizing health and fitness, household economy, environmental protection, and social equity. The St Johns River-to-Sea Loop Alliance is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable association formed on July 26, 2016.
Our vision
We work to make cycling easy, safe, and fun for everyone in our region. We believe in the power of bicycling and other active transportation to help create a healthy, prosperous, resilient, and equitable future. We envision safe, convenient transportation options for everyone and the freedom to get around easily. We aim to share the joy of bicycling and walking, making it an easy choice for everyone. We envision a future where people of all ages and abilities can bike, walk, and take transit safely.
We believe our world-class trail network will become one of the most popular touring regions of Florida, inspiring residents and attracting visitors and new residents to engage in active transportation and recreation. It will connect people and communities and stimulate locally resourceful economic development. Our region will become a model for active transportation and for place-focused tourism. The Alliance will become a model for stimulating local, regional and global involvement, support and promotion of trail planning, development and use, and nurturing partnerships other organizations that share our mission and vision.
