2019 Spring Into Spring Ride

The first Spring Into Spring Fun Family Ride and Trail Celebration  (but for sure not the last!)  took place on March 16, 2019.  Special thanks to our partners:  Volusia County Parks, Recreation and Culture and Blue Spring State Park, to our sponsors The Junction at DeBary Station and Vintage Estate Homes , Enterprise Preservation Society, REI and to all our volunteers, to JCs Bike Shops for the support and great raffle prizes,  to Advent Health for providing the packs, and the Volusia County Sheriff's department Officers Fortin and Raible for making sure everyone got across Highway 17-92 safely. What a great place to live! We had a fabulous time - over 50 riders who left from Beresford Park - choosing rides from  8 miles (Blue Spring State Park)  to 55 miles (Guise Road by way of Lake Monroe Park).    Everyone  rendezvoused  at Blue Springs for lunch and a raffle drawing.  It was a great day!  Since it was our first ride there were a couple of glitches and check-in was a little crazy - but WE DID IT!  Congrats and kudos to all who volunteered.

This ride could not happen until the new 1.5-mile DeBary to Blue Spring Connector portion was completed in December from the corner of Donald E Smith and DeBary Plantation across Duke Energy property to connect with the Blue Spring segment.   Before this riders were forced to ride along Highway 17-92, so this small section opened new possibilities to connect with relative safety between the Blue Spring Section and the Gemini to Osteen/Guise Road Section. Kudos to Volusia County, Duke Energy and FDOT for getting this done!

We had a few glitches but the only accident was on the RailRoad Overpass at W. Blue Spring Avenue and the person involved has let us know he is fine.    The RR overpass is always a challenge and especially if you are tired! Use caution and ascend and descend with care.

A good time was had by all, as you can see from the photos.   Hover over the photos for captions and help me identify everyone (fill in the 'unk's!)  Check back again soon for more photos.
